Best season

Year-round. May–Aug runs the AURA winter sound-and-light show after dark — turns the day into a 12-hour package.

FAQ — Ballarat

Can we add the AURA night show?

Yes — AURA runs after dark, May–Aug. We'll lengthen the day to ~13 hours, with dinner inside Sovereign Hill before the show. Pricing tier moves up to long-day; we'll quote it.

How much of Sovereign Hill is wheelchair-accessible?

Main street and the museum are step-free. The underground mine tour has 30 stairs into the tram and is not wheelchair-friendly. Gold panning, the school, and the gold pour all are.

Is this too historical for younger kids?

No — it is built for kids 4+. Costumed actors interact, the lollie shop, candle-dipping, and gold panning are hands-on. Most under-10s rate it as their best Melbourne day.

Can we add Kryal Castle nearby?

Yes — Kryal Castle is 15 minutes from Sovereign Hill and runs daily medieval shows. We'd need to drop the Botanical Gardens to fit it in.
